Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to book a session?

No, you don’t need a referral to see one of our psychologists or counsellors. However, if you’d like to access Medicare rebates, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP.

Do you offer Medicare rebates?

Yes, Medicare rebates are available for clients with a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Rebates currently apply to sessions with registered psychologists. Please get in touch if you’re unsure whether you’re eligible or need help arranging this with your GP.

How much do sessions cost?

Session fees range from $170 to $250 depending on the practitioner and service type. We’ll provide a clear breakdown of costs when you enquire or book. NDIS services are billed in line with the current NDIS price guide.

Do you see NDIS participants?

Yes. Capaz Health is a registered NDIS provider. We offer therapeutic support to plan managed, self managed and NDIA managed participants, and can assist with a wide range of needs, including emotional regulation, mental health support, and neurodivergence.

What’s the difference between a psychologist and a counsellor?

Both psychologists and counsellors are trained to support mental health, but their qualifications and areas of focus may differ. Psychologists are registered with AHPRA and can provide formal psychological assessment and diagnosis. Counsellors bring extensive therapeutic training and often focus on practical, relational, or emotional support. At Capaz, all our practitioners are experienced and work collaboratively to ensure the right fit for your needs.

Do I have to do outdoor or nature-based therapy?

Not at all. While nature-based therapy is one of the options we offer, we prioritise individualised therapy that aligns with your needs, preferences, and goals.

If a traditional setting or telehealth feels like the right fit for you, we’ll always support that. Together, we’ll choose the format that feels most comfortable and effective for your therapeutic journey.

Do you provide Positive Behaviour Support?

Yes Capaz is a Registered Provider for Behaviour Support.

Can I do my session online?

Yes, we offer secure and flexible telehealth sessions via video or phone. Many clients choose this option for convenience, especially if they live regionally or prefer to attend therapy from home.

How do I choose the right therapist?

We’re here to help. When you first get in touch, we’ll ask a few questions about what you’re looking for and recommend a practitioner who we believe will be a good fit. You’re always welcome to change practitioners if it doesn’t feel quite right, finding the right connection is important.

What ages do you work with?

We see adults, children, adolescents and families. Some practitioners specialise in working with particular age groups, and we’ll guide you toward the best match.

What age group do you work with for emotional and behavioural counselling?

We specialise in working with young children under the age of 9, offering therapy focused on emotional regulation, lasting behavioural change, and early intervention.

How can counselling help my child with emotional regulation?

Counselling helps children and carers to understand their brain, learn to recognise and express their emotions in healthy ways.

Our therapists use play-based and evidence-based approaches to teach calming strategies, coping skills, and social-emotional development.

Is online couples counselling effective?

Yes. Research shows that online couples counselling can be just as effective as in-person sessions.

Virtual therapy allows couples to attend sessions together even if they’re in different locations, and it often helps people feel more relaxed and open in their own environment.

What are the benefits of online therapy for busy families or couples?

Telehealth removes the need to travel, making it easier to fit therapy into your schedule.

Couples and parents can attend from different locations, and sessions can be booked during lunch breaks—eliminating commuting time and stress.

Do you offer support for neurodivergent clients?

Yes. Our therapists work with clients with ADHD, autism spectrum presentations, and other neurodivergent experiences. We tailor therapy to each individual and offer flexible, inclusive care that respects different ways of thinking and being.

We take a neuro-affirming approach — we love all brains and believe every brain is unique. Our work focuses on helping you understand how your brain functions, and supporting you with strategies that embrace your strengths and support your needs.

Do you offer psychological assessments?

Yes. We offer a range of psychological assessments for both children and adults. These may include cognitive, behavioural, emotional, or developmental assessments, and can be used to support diagnosis, school planning, or broader care needs. If you’re unsure what kind of assessment is right for you or your child, we’re happy to talk it through.

What if I think my child may have ADHD or autism?

If you're noticing differences in your child's behaviour, attention, learning, or emotional regulation and are wondering about ADHD or autism, we can help. Our psychologists provide assessments, observations, and support based on your child’s needs. We also offer guidance for parents and can work closely with educators and other health professionals as needed.
